Black And White Politics

I don’t think it is very controversial to say that we are living in a complicated time. Many complex social issues today are extremely oversimplified. I don’t think it’s as black and white as many on both sides of the political spectrum make it out to be.

Conservative/Libertarian types generally have wanted to be left alone in order to live their lives how they see fit. Live and let live. They became complacent, and for years they ignored the rising tide of the Leftist culture shift. When they finally opened their eyes and realized the water was at their necks, they had nearly lost a nation to these radical idealists. The people caught on quickly, but the elected officials of the Republican Party paid no mind. They were too busy happily floating through the swamp already, to notice the rising water. In 2006, Republicans lost the Senate and the House. Then they lost the presidency in 2008.

Despite the number of stubborn politicians set in their swampy ways, the people remained set in a desperate search of a backbone amongst a sea of Invertebrates. To quote the clever words of commentator Ben Shapiro, they finally found a hammer in search of nails in the form of Donald J. Trump. Sometimes he hits a nail, sometimes he hits a baby. The people just wanted their fighter, and they got one. Not only did so many on the Right suddenly come out and grow a spine for once, but the left shot so much farther down the political spectrum that it even scared many who identify as liberals.

Complicated issues like race became oversimplified by the left, including dumbed down versions of history by which famous figures became demonized. Thomas Jefferson’s ownership of slaves became the focal point of a man who was actually a strong abolitionist. A complicated historical issue turned to black and white, so it is now considered racist by the left to lend positivity to things like: The Declaration of Independence, the founding fathers of America, and even the original U.S. “Betsy Ross” flag. For years the Left would just deny these accusations of insanity from the Right, always insisting their intentions were virtuous. The media would play their part in normalizing these actions from the Left, and paint those even moderately conservative as an Alt-Right Nazi (including Orthodox Jews like Mr. Shapiro). Conservative people of color have been branded as traitors to their race, resulting in their memberships being revoked.

We have allowed a completely Leftist culture to take over here in the States: our schools and higher education are Left, our cities are Left, our corporations are Left, our media is Left, our movies and TV are Left. When conservative Christians finally came out to stand up to this rapidly declining culture, they began to face some of the heaviest attacks (we take that as a compliment by the way). Many Christians struggle with the ability to show love, and at the same time stand up to evil. Now when I say evil, I don’t think we’re talking about some minor political differences. Many on the Left won’t even associate with those on the Right. They blow whistles in your face, shout you down, and even physically attack you in order to silence speech they don’t agree with. These Leftists have an ever narrowing “Overton window” of political discourse. The Overton window, is the scale of which you associate yourself with certain people. For example: you wouldn’t have a dialogue with Hitler, you’d just shoot him. To most on the left, everyone that disagrees with their exact political prescription is Hitler, and therefore outside their Overton window. Anything you say is branded as hate speech, and you need to be silenced.

Conservatives for the most part have no trouble associating with most anyone. We’re used to everyone being on the left... especially us Californians. And here’s the big difference: conservatives want fewer taxes and less laws. The left wants to murder babies, take your God given rights to own guns to defend your family, and prevent you from educating your children how you see fit. They want to take away your money, your insurance, and force you into a socialist society. These aren’t just minor political scuffles over tax rates, they are downright evil. Right has become wrong, and wrong has become right… or in this case, Left.

As Christians and conservatives, we need to properly train for this spiritual battle. We should not fight with earthly weapons, unless as a last resort defense. We need to fight with truth. Our most powerful weapon is the Sword Of Truth itself… the Word Of God. Love these people who need it, but stick to the truth… don’t cave in just to avoid a few hurt feelings. When someone is about to be hit by a bus, you push them out of harms way. Sure, they may have some bumps and scrapes, but you saved their life. How can it be more loving to let them get hit? As Christians we still need to love them, but we also need to fight to our last breath. We want to leave a God fearing nation to our children. Go out there and be the light shining in the darkness. Our missionary journey shouldn’t only occur in some distant country, it’s also right here at home. When you step out of the doors of your church, you enter the mission field. This culture is on us… get out there and change it. Don’t stop praying, especially when they just won’t listen.
